Â
RALEIGH – Jackie Stengel and Hannah Keogh have been named captains for the 2016 NC State women's soccer season, head coach Tim Santoro announced Wednesday. Stengel will be entering her redshirt junior season with the Wolfpack while Keogh will be a sophomore during the 2016 campaign.
Â
"Jackie has been a captain and has that experience, while Hannah is another obvious choice due to her on-field performance and her mature demeanor off the field," Santoro said. "She has great leadership qualities and I think this makes for a good combination with Jackie.
Â
"Moving forward, in addition to their strong play, they both set the example off the field—academically and socially—that you want your team to have."
Â
Stengel, a member of the All-ACC Third Team and All-ACC Freshman Team in 2013, is NC State's active career scoring leader with 14 goals in 40 matches. She scored nine goals in her debut 2013 season and following a redshirt year in 2014, netted a team-high five for the Wolfpack during the 2015 season. The 2016 season will mark her second straight campaign as a team captain.
Â
Keogh completed a strong rookie season in 2015. The San Diego native started all 19 matches and did not come off the field once throughout the entire season, playing each and every one of the 1,755 minutes in a defensive position. She recorded one assist in NC State's 2-0 win over Elon on August 27 and showed great control throughout the year, not receiving a single booking in any of the 19 matches.
Â
NC State opens the spring season at home against Wingate on Saturday, March 19. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. from the Wolfpack Training Center.
