
NC State Trio Among 2016 N.C. Sports Hall of Fame Inductees

Football player, swimmer and women’s basketball player among honorees
RALEIGH, N.C. – Former NC State standouts David Fox, Haywood Jeffires and Susan Yow have been selected to enter the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame as members of the 2016 induction class, as announced by the organization on Tuesday.

The N.C. Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1963. The permanent exhibit, North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame, is located on the third floor of the N.C. Museum of History in Raleigh and features significant artifacts and memorabilia donated by inductees. The museum is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is free.

The inductees will be enshrined during the 53rd annual induction banquet on the evening of Friday, May 6, at the Raleigh Convention Center. An afternoon news conference will be held on Thursday, May 5, at 4 p.m. at the N.C. Museum of History, located at 5 East Edenton Street.

David Fox – Men's Swimming
Fox enjoyed a decorated career with the Wolfpack swimming & diving program, wining the 1993 National Championship in the 50 freestyle and was also a three-time All-American. He won the ACC Championship in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle three consecutive years from 1991-1993. Fox was a two-time ACC Championship Meet MVP and garnered the 1993 Swimmer of the Year honor.

He broke numerous program records during his tenure and went on to become a member of the USA Team, winning an Olympic gold medal in the 1996 Olympics as a member of the 4x100 freestyle relay team

Haywood Jeffires – Football
North Carolina native Haywood Jeffires was a four-year letter winner for NC State from 1983-1986. He led the Wolfpack in receiving during his junior season with 36 catches, 542 yards and six touchdowns. Jeffires was a first-round draft choice by the Houston Oilers of National Football League (NFL).

He went to enjoy a successful 10-year professional career and was a three-time Pro Bowl selection. Jeffires was a two-sport star at Page High School in Greensboro and he opportunities to play either football or basketball on the collegiate level.

Susan Yow – Women's Basketball
Yow became the Wolfpack women's basketball program's first All-American and was also named to the All-NCAIAW Team and the All-NCAIAW Tournament Team. She is the third Yow sister - Deborah (2006) and Kay (1989) - to be honored by the N.C. Sports Hall of Fame.

She still ranks second in the NC State record books with a scoring average of 19.4 points per game during the 1975-76 season. Yow recorded one of the best single seasons in program history as she helped lead sister and head coach Kay Yow's first NC State team to a 19-7 record which included two victories over UNC-Chapel Hill and an appearance in the Women's National Invitational Tournament.
