Gymnastics Listed Second In EAGL Preseason Poll

The Wolfpack received three first-place votes
BALTIMORE- As the 2016 season approaches, the NC State gymnastics team enters the season listed second in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Preseason Poll, announced Tuesday by the conference.

Based on a poll by the league's six head coaches, the Wolfpack received 30 points and three first-place votes. Just one point ahead of the Pack in the poll is defending EAGL Champion George Washington, who also collected three first-place votes.
Rounding out the top three of the conference standings is New Hampshire with 27 points. Head coaches were not allowed to vote for their team in the poll.

Last season NC State finished at No. 25 in the final Troester.com rankings, the highest-ranked EAGL team among the national standings.

NC State returns 12 members from last year's squad, including NCAA qualifiers Michaela Woodford and Brittni Watkins. Watkins earned second-team All-America honors after an eighth-place finish on beam at last year's championship.

The Pack enters the 2016 season with four freshmen on its roster: Caitlin Fillard, twins Alexa and Paris Phillips and Maggie Tamburro. Alexa and Paris, who signed NLIs in November, will arrive to Raleigh in January.

The team will open its season Jan. 9 when it travels to Penn State for a dual meet, which is set for a 4:00 p.m. start.Â
