NC State Women Secure NCAA Record 32nd Championship Appearance

Women second, Men fifth at NCAA Southeast Regional

EARLYSVILLE, Va. – The NC State women's cross country team finished second at the NCAA Southeast Regional to earn an automatic berth in the NCAA Championships. The selection marks the team's 32nd championship appearance – which is the most in NCAA history. The men's team finished fifth and will await an at-large bid to the finals.
All-Region Performers:
Seven Wolfpack runners earned All-Southeast Region honors, as four women and three men placed in the top 25 of their respective races.
Rachel Koon and Erika Kemp led the women's team, finishing eighth and ninth, respectively. This is Koon's first award and Kemp's second consecutive regional honor.
Megan Moye and freshman Ryen Frazier rounded out the women's All-Southeast Region selections, finishing 15th and 17th, respectively.
On the men's side, Meron Simon and Sam Parsons led the team, with the former claiming fourth and latter fifth. Bakri Abushouk earned his first regional honor after crossing the line third for the team and 23rd overall.
Race Standings:
In the women's race, NC State finished just behind Virginia with 74 points. The Cavaliers earned the victory with 53 points, while North Carolina finished third with 100 points.
On the men's side Louisville earned the upset victory with 77 points. Virginia was second with 96 points, Eastern Kentucky was third (113 points) and Furman finished fourth with 113 points. NC State rounded out the ranked teams in fifth with 148 points.
Notables:
This is Koon's first time leading the team and her fifth time scoring this season. Koon has now finished top 10 in her last two races. Two weeks ago, she took ninth at the ACC Championships.
Alyssa Rudawsky was the team's fifth scorer and she has moved up in the team standings throughout the year. After running in open races at the Notre Dame Invite and Wisconsin Invite, Rudawsky moved up in the team order to make the lineup at ACCs and regionals. She finished as the team's seventh runner at ACCs and turned in another strong performance today to finish fifth on the team and 27th overall.
Kemp, Moye and Frazier have given the squad consistent finishes throughout the year. All three earned All-ACC awards last week. Frazier has led the team in three of the team's five meets, while Kemp and Moye have scored in every meet that they have competed.
Simon and Parsons have led the team throughout the regular season, finishing as the team's first and second runners in four-straight races for the men. The duo finished top 10 in the individual standings at the Notre Dame Invite, ACC Championships and the NCAA Southeast Regional.
Redshirt freshman Zack Langston stepped up to finish fourth on the team and 50th overall. This is the second-straight meet that Langston has scored for the Pack.
Men's Team Resume:
The Wolfpack men's team has raced well throughout the season. After opening the season in first at the adidas XC Challenge, the team stepped up to finish second in a loaded field at the Notre Dame Invite.
Two weeks later, the group finished seventh at the Wisconsin Invite – which is considered the closest simulation to the NCAA Championships during the regular season. At ACC's, the squad beat out regional foe Virginia to finish second in the conference.

The women are guaranteed to run Saturday, Nov. 21 in Louisville, Ky., at the NCAA Championships. The men will wait for at-large teams to be announced Saturday to learn if it will advance to the NCAA Championships.
