
Gymnastics Adds Four To Program In Early Signing Period

Two will join in January of 2016 while the other two will arrive in August of 2016
RALEIGH, N.C.- The NC State gymnastics program added student-athletes Alexis Beucler, Melissa Brooker, along with Alexa and Paris Phillips in the early signing period, as announced by head coach Mark Stevenson.Â

Twins Alexa and Paris will join the program in January and be eligible to compete during the 2016 season, while Beucler and Brooker will arrive in Raleigh in August of 2016.

All four student-athletes are level 10 gymnasts, while Beucler has experience at the junior and senior international elite level.

"These four girls are going to bring a lot of high quality gymnastics to our program," said Stevenson. We're very excited to have all four sign with NC State because they will bring that next level of gymnastics, which is what we're looking for. We feel really good about this group and what they can do for our program."

Alexa Phillips
Alexa, who hails from Athens, Ga., holds a strong resume in the 2015 competition season. She finished second on vault and 10th in the all-around at the Junior Olympic Nationals, claimed a title on vault at the Region Eight Championship and at the Georgia State Championship. Additionally she finished second on bars and in the all-around competition at the state level.

Paris Phillips
Paris is also a native of Athens, Ga., who had a strong outing at the state level this year. At the 2015 Georgia State Championship she finished second on vault and third on floor and in the all-around. At the 2014 state championship she tabbed titles on floor and in the all-around competition and placed second on vault, bars and beam.

"Alexa and Paris will join us in January and will instantly make an impact on the team. They will have a great opportunity to make the lineups right from the start, and we're very excited to have them right in time for our 2016 season.

"Both are very strong on floor as well as bars, their skills on vault are outstanding and are both solid on beam. These two will have the potential to rotate in all four events for us."

Alexis Beucler
Beucler, who will arrive in Raleigh from Clermont, Fla., is a 2015 Junior Olympic National qualifier. She finished second on beam and floor and third in the all-around at the 2015 Region Eight Championship. At the 2015 Florida State Championship she placed in the top five on vault (second), beam (third), floor (fourth) and all-around (fifth). In her 2014 season she finished fourth at the American Classic and 18th at the Secret US Classic, respectively.

"Alexis is a former elite gymnast that looks phenomenal on all four events. We have high hopes for her and look for her to be impactful on any of the rotations next season."

Melissa Brooker
Brooker, a Weddington, N.C., native, is also a 2015 Junior Olympic National qualifier. She finished fourth on bars and beam and sixth in the all-around competition at the 2015 Region Eight Championship. Additionally in 2015, she placed third on vault, finished fourth on floor and all-around and sixth on bars and beam at the North Carolina State Championship.

"Melissa is a very talented young lady. She has big skills that are going to help us in a lot of areas. She's a strong competitor on vault and very balanced and graceful on beam, so we're excited to welcome her next fall."
