The strength and conditioning facility in the Murphy Football Center was officially dedicated as The Robert B. Fulford Family Weight Room on Friday evening. Robbie and Jennifer Fulford's generous contribution to NC State Athletics helped fund the refurbishment and renovation of the space.
The Fulfords are 1992 graduates, with Robbie earning a B.A. in business management and Jennifer receiving a B.A. in sociology. During his undergraduate years, Robbie played football under head coach Dick Sheridan. He fondly remembers his days of working hard with coaches and players and recognizes the impact that they had as he developed as both a person and a player at NC State.
"In anything that I do, it's about a team and about preparation," he says. " I'm thankful for all the people that have given me the opportunity to develop and to get better and to hone my skills over the years. So much of the person that I am today started at NC State. This is a great university and my family is proud to be a part of changing the future for NC State student-athletes.
"When Coach Doeren made the statement after the UNC game that we're a 'hands in the dirt' and a 'blue-collar school' … he had me right then. I appreciate his staff and all they do to develop future leaders. It takes somebody to believe in you and I'm thankful for all the coaches and staff that believed in me. Let's continue to give these opportunities to athletes to come."
Robbie has spent his career working primarily in agribusiness and the tobacco industry and is currently involved in several entrepreneurial endeavors. He served on the NC State University Plant Science Initiative Advocacy and Resource Task Force and is a member of the NC State University Agribusiness Entrepreneurship Advisory Board.
The Fulfords, whose daughter Fleming is a freshman at NC State, have given generously across campus to support the Poole College of Management, College of Ag & Life Science as well as the NC State Entrepreneurship Fund.
The renovation of the football weight room included the addition of Sorinex equipment, reconfiguring the layout to increase training space, functionality and additional training platforms.
According to Coach Dantonio Burnette "just being able to have everyone in here training together gives us a great advantage to encourage teamwork and accountability. We are already seeing the benefits of this great facility through the work these men are doing on the field each day."
